When I was five years old, I learned that the youngest published author listed in the Guinness Book of World Records was just six, and I knew I could beat him. I sat down and wrote Mr. Burnham, Keep It Under Your Hat! that very day. To ensure that I wouldn’t be a one-hit wonder, I also completed a heartwarming page-turner about a “dwaffe.” (That was my best shot at “giraffe,” and in full disclosure, I don’t spell all that much better now.)
Sadly, neither of those books made it to the mass markets, and it would be many years before my dreams of being a published author would come true. But while I may no longer be eligible for the title of youngest author, I believe I am a solid contender for most thrilled. Nothing, for me, is more fun than dreaming up stories of magic and adventure–nothing, that is, besides sharing them with the world.
I write both picture books and middle grade novels and am delighted to be represented by the fabulous Ginger Knowlton of Curtis Brown, Ltd.
